A few weeks ago, I was listening to K-Love on the radio. We sometimes listen to K-Love as we go about our morning school work or chores. Their DJs have such funny and thoughtful banter. I enjoy it. One particular day they were talking about celebrating the last forty days before turning 40 years old. They took callers and were asking what each would want to do during the last forty days of his (or her) fortieth year. There were so many answers~ tell a different person every day that I love them, do something kind everyday, spend time with my family every day, etc.
This whole conversation got me thinking. I’ll be turning forty soon. What would I want to focus on during the last forty days of my fortieth year? What would I want to spend my energy on in order to prepare for the next forty years? Here’s my answer:
- I would work on being more consistent with spending time in prayer and Bible study. I used to be good at this, but over the last two years I have fallen out of the habit of taking this time with God. Of course, the last two years were filled with bedrest, Postpartum Depression, and a new baby. I guess that had something to do with it. I want to cultivate this habit again.
- I would lose some weight and get into shape. I feel so much better when I T-Tapp everyday. I have fallen out of this habit, too. T-Tapp takes motivation and brain power, which I did not have during my recent drop into Postpartum Depresion. I know that it helps me. It helps purge the toxins from my body. It invigorates me. It makes me stronger and healthier. This is another habit that I want to cultivate again.
- I would begin a few new routines within our school day. There are a few new subjects that I would like to add to our daily learning~ like Spanish. Again, another habit that I would like to cultivate.
Now for the best part: I am already in the last 40 days of my 40th year. In fact, I have thirty-three days left (including today) until I turn forty years old. I just need to make them count.
What would you do with the last forty days of your”x”th year?
