Last weekend, in a moment of clarity~ and the need for some fun~ I decided to take the children on a little surprise adventure.
Every so often we tell everyone to get ready to go somewhere. We don't tell them where we're going. Sometimes we give them a clue, sometimes not. But the destination is a surprise.
This time when we piled in the van, I took a picture of all the children in the back– wondering where we were off to. {Can you tell that Judah didn't want me to take a picture?}
I had given them a silly clue as to our destination. I shouldn't have. On the way there I confirmed that Colleen (as predicted) had figured out the plan. But no one else had any idea.
Until we pulled into the drive-in at Wendy's.
And ordered a Frosty for everyone.
It wasn't expensive. It wasn't complicated. It required no technology or advanced planning.
It was just simple fun. It was togetherness. It was just like my parents used to do with my brothers and me when we were young. Good, old-fashioned togetherness.
We laughed and relaxed together~ even if teenagers try to pretend they're cool for the camera.
We all need to be intentional to pull away from the world.
We need to be mindful to take some moments during our day to connect with those we love the most in all of the world.
This is the eternal.
This is where our treasure lies.

Welcome to the first week of the . . .
{For Summer}
2012
Blog Hop!
This summer Missional Mama, Our Good Life, Looking at Life Creativlei, Walking in High Cotton, and the daisyhead (that's me!) will be joining together to host the exciting Family Connections Blog Hop.
Each Wednesday we will be posting about a different theme for summertime fun with your family. The theme this week is (Old Fashioned) Family Fun.
Our goal is to gather ideas and inspiration towards connecting with our spouses and children in an intentional and lasting way.
We invite you to link up with posts about the same topic for the week or another idea of summertime family fun that you'd like to share. Feel free to link an older post as long as it is only linked once. Then grab the button code over in the sidebar to add to your post so that others can come and benefit from everyone else's ideas and link up their own.
We hope you'll join us each week for inspiration and to share your own Summertime Family Connections! Next week we'll be sharing about Nature Connections.
Fine Print:
We ask that you include the graphic or a link back in your post, link your blog post directly and (Please reference “What is a Permalink?” at My3Boybarians if you are unsure how to do so.), keep your posts family friendly and stay on the theme. {We reserve the rights to delete any links that do not follow these rules.}

Looks like a lot of fun! When we go out to eat, which isn’t very often so it is definitely a treat, the children always ask to be surprised. They know their way about town pretty well so they narrow the choices as we turn on certain roads and see if their initial guesses are correct.
I do agree about intentionally living and choosing to make and sustain connections with our loved ones – so important to choose each and every day.
How fun! Guessing where you are going is part of the adventure!
I love how it is the most simple things we do that really create lasting memories for our children. Yummy!!
What a great way to break out of the routine and do something fun without it being too expensive or stressful! Who doesn’t like treats?
Great reminder about how simple it can be to have quality family time!
My girls love doing that! In fact, in the fall when they have the frosty coupon books, we’ll go and get several and use those for treat runs. It is so much fun!
I love this!! Simple and fun and together – exactly what we should be doing!
I love this! We have a great little ice cream shop we treat Gavin to in the summer. I love to surprise him by going there.
