I don't remember Algebra. How on earth will I possibly be able to teach it?
I have 3 younger children to teach. I can't see how I would possible have time to teach high school too.
What if I do it wrong and mess up his high school education so bad that colleges won't accept him?
Can I really homeschool high school?

Let's face it. These questions, or similar ones that are also filled with doubt and worry, have come to your mind when faced with the prospect of homeschooling high school. They are very real concerns.
However, there is hope. You can homeschool high school.
In fact, it's easier than ever to homeschool high school. There are so many resources available to help you teach everything from Algebra to History. In fact, many classes are offered online or through a virtual classroom (like at Apologia Academy or CurrClick) so you can delegate certain subjects to another teacher.
Even without giving teaching responsibility over to someone else, you can homeschool all those subjects that you don't remember. When children are little, they need mom to teach and guide in a very hands-on way, but as they get older students become more able to learn information more independently. When you're homeschooling high school, you don't have to teach everything. Your teen has learned how to learn. You provide materials and you become a learner right along with your teens!
The style of learning in high school begins to shift. It becomes much more like the way you have to learn in college– the teacher provides materials and a spine of information, while the student must dig in to learn the information on his own. The benefit that your teen will have is that he will still have you. In the early high school years, you have the opportunity to learn alongside your teen. As you learn with him, he begins to see how to find information and how to find ways to understand it when it's confusing. No need to remember every detail of World History when you can learn right along with your teen.
The fear about homeschooling high school that I hear the most is the fear of messing up a teen's chances of getting into college. The reality is that many colleges now want homeschooled students. They have seen that many homeschooled students are very well prepared for college because of the types of learning experiences that they have had in high school. It's often seen as a benefit rather than a hindrance. You won't ruin his chances of college.
The bottom line is this…
If God has called you to educate your child, He will supply all that you need. That doesn't stop once you reach the high school years. He will continue to give you all that you need, whether that is provision for music lessons or tutors or the time to learn algebra alongside your struggling student.
God will give each teen the perfect experience to build him into the kind of person that He desires. God will use it all.
Rest in Him, momma. You can homeschool high school… with God's help.
