Not long ago a mom in the HomeSchool High Support Facebook group asked a great question. She is homeschooling her son's first year of high school and looking toward the coming years. You now, planning like we moms tend to do.

What high school electives have your students done?
It's really a wonderful question! Sometimes teens know what they would like to study, but moms are left wondering if it's really a valid course for high school credit or how colleges would view that course as an elective. We don't want to mess up his chances of getting into college, after all.
I thought it might be helpful to make a list of possible high school electives, some that our family has used and some that other families have used. Let it serve as ideas to get your {or your high schoolers} creative juices flowing. I often find lots of inspiration from hearing what others have done. I hope this list is helpful to you!

Perfect! Lovethe tips.
Thank you for hosting!
We are adding “Livestock and Companion Animals” as an elective for my daughter, she wants to be a veterinarian, so a number of her electives will be horse related, equine management, barn management, and courses like that. She also takes choir, guitar, and piano lessons as electives. Thanks for the tips!
I am curious, did you find online or distance courses for equine management/barn management, etc., or did you do your own thing?
Nanowrimo! I count it at least once during high school, but add a publishing component. The kids, finishing their novels, have to spend December editing. In January we send them to a vanity publisher. We also interview professional publishers and editors to get a appreciation for their very difficult job!
Hi. I’m here from LetsHomeschoolHighSchool blogroll.
Thanks for this list. My high schoolers are dual enrolled at the local college and taking some electives there their last two years of high school. They’ve also done some of the other ones you’ve mentioned in your list, like Debate.
Great list!
